It’s time to take your business to the next level. They change your mindset. They blow up your day. They show you a different, better way of doing things. It’s time to stop re-inventing the wheel, and get a coach who’s already mastered the techniques needed to excel.
Great coaches offer great perspective, opening your mind to a new way of doing things.
“Get someone smarter to help you along,” said Sarah Gustafson, a Massachusetts real estate coach.
When is the best time to get a coach?
“I was about 6 years in. I thought I was doing ok. I got tired of trying to figure everything out. I wanted guidance from someone who knew the pitfalls,” said Tony Thomas, a realtor in York, Pennsylvania.
“Coming out of a career in Human Resources, I wanted to try real estate. I wasn’t well established. I was told to check out a coaching company. I was looking for a shortcut to success by standing on the shoulders of giants,” said Alyce Dailey, a Baltimore broker.
“My biggest frustration with real estate is you had to learn everything on your own. No one had one “tried and true” system to success. I needed to figure out how to build my business quickly,” said Gustafson.
Working with a coach gave them a blueprint, a roadmap they could follow to instantly get better results.
How did you choose your coach?
“I got involved with Buffini and Co. right away. I was drawn to their philosophy of how to treat people well while building a business. I recommend you pick the company you align with, and then trust their system,” said Dailey.
“I ended up with the CORE program. They are focused on building a business. They watch the numbers. They teach you to use systems,” said Gustafson.
“I did interview a couple of coaching companies. I met my coach, Lee Thomas Brown. She did a seminar, and I thought she is where I’m trying to go. Ask someone who’s business you admire to coach you,” said Thomas.
How did a coach change the way you did business?
“They will double your income if you do what they tell you to do. You have to follow the systems. I wish I had committed to it earlier in my career. You have to do the work, even when it’s not fun,” said Gustafson.
“I did 30 transactions without a coach. My first year with a coach, I went to 50. The next year, I had 80. Now, I’m pacing for 120. I’m the kind of person that will follow a blueprint to get the best results. It will transform your business, if you get out of the way,” said Thomas.
“I don’t know anyone great in any industry who doesn’t have a coach. The first year I sold 19 homes. When the recession happened, all of these agents I had looked up to, disappeared, and I was still producing. Now, I’m selling 150 homes with 100 days out of the office last year. It gave me my business and my life. Coaches help you get the life you want,” said Dailey.
A good coach will know you well enough to know when you need a kick in the pants or a hug.
Thomas said, “the first thing a coach will do is help you figure out who you are, and how you can use that to be successful in real estate. We started with a mission statement, and my core values and principals. Then, we put systems in place. It has saved me so much time.”
And, Dailey says sometimes you need to make a change. “There’s every season in life, and sometimes you do feel like you outgrow someone.”
“It’s their job to get you where you want to be. It’s a lot of money, $500-$1000 a month to hire a coach, but you get a great return on your investment, if you do what they tell you. You’re not going to pay for someone to lay something out for you, and then not do it. It would be a waste of money. You’ve got to get a return on your investment,” said Thomas.
Dailey adds, “don’t argue with them. They are the expert in the field. Let the process happen. There will be times you don’t want to do what they are asking, because it doesn’t work with you. However, you must surrender to the process to get better.”
Coaches make you accountable. They can also help you get your life back by getting control of your schedule. They will structure your day to optimize your results, freeing you up to not have to work around the clock. How would your business get better if you had someone coaching you?
