Todd and Megan Farris (The Ferris Property Group) and Terry Waggoner call themselves the Boom Team. They are real estate agents out of Indianapolis, and they have become experts in building a social media platform that is professional, interactive, and what they call all “y-o-u”!
Boom’s goal for every real estate agent is for them to become the “digital mayor” of their area. Show prospective and previous clients that you know the area, you are the expert. When creating your business plan, include a plan for social media. Experiment with what to post and where to post it, but most of all, post! The more you can get your name, personality and business out into the world, the better.
Macro vs. Micro Content:
Boom has separated social media content into two categories: macro and micro. Macro content is content that is intended to make your business grow. Make sure to be you in these videos. Show your personality. Boom has separated macro content into two categories: expert and local content. For expert content, Boom does a “1 Real Minute” video per month where they talk about real estate and important facts that their clients don’t always know. They also do weekly “Homeowner Hack” videos.
They suggest for your local content, reach out to local businesses in your community. You can also reach out to your local Chamber of Commerce for upcoming events in the community. Show your followers that you know the community.
Micro content includes a little bit of your personal life. Maybe you post what you did this weekend, or a cute picture of your pet. Allow your followers to see you personally as well as professionally.
FaceBook Live Tips:
Boom has advice for those of you who are new to FaceBook live. First off, practice makes perfect. You can go live to just yourself. Start there and do it until you are satisfied with the result. They also suggest announcing before you go live and going live for 5-10 minutes. Be sure to interact with your viewers and experiment with different content. What content are your followers responding to most?
Creating Interaction with Followers:
Some ideas that Boom has for you to receive interaction with you followers are:
- Ask for recommendations
- Ask opinions
- Always reply to comments
- Interact with others posts on social media
As with everything, practice makes perfect. So start somewhere, anywhere. Just be willing to put yourself out there, and be consistent with it!
