Successful agent, Leigh Brown, shares with agents what they need to lean on to make their business better than ever.
What is a Real Estate Agent?
When you introduce yourself and your career, what do you say? Leigh Brown urges agents to know and state their value, especially amidst the trend of “DIY Realtors”. Real Estate agents bring value to the table that is often forgotten. Brown talks about closing deals and dealing with an ex-spouse that refuses to sign the papers, holding clients hands while they cry, and being there when things go sideways (as they often do). Your clients need you. Do you know how to voice your value?
Why Real Estate?
Why are you here in the first place and what keeps you coming back for more? Focus on the relationships you’ve built and the connections you have made with people who started as strangers. Nurture those connections. Brown has fantastic ideas to add a personal touch to your business such as sending a baby book when pregnancies are announced, baked goods, and simply just showing up. Take care of your colleagues. Take care of yourself. Since the dawn of technology, real estate agents have been available to their clients on a 24/7 business. Make time for yourself and remind yourself why you got into this industry in the first place.
Social Media – Everyone’s Doing It
Realtors worldwide are building their platform via social media. Are you easily accessible? Brown believes every agent should update their business picture every 12 months and make their profile and contact information public. She suggests agents go live on Facebook, and allow Facebook to help them in their prospecting. Brown also models a fantastic Pinterest page with incredible recipes and home owner hacks.
Sphere vs. Database
Brown urges agents to look at their sphere of influence and their database as two separate things. She defines her sphere of influence as those who would give her a hug at the grocery store, even when she’s a mess. Brown says to “love your people” and “start figuring out how to tie yourself to people.” Who shows up for you in a crisis? Do you do the same for them?
